Good evening to anyone still following this slow descent into academic exhaustion:
Luckily, today wasn’t as exhausting as the past few days. It was actually quite productive, which almost felt suspicious.
Unfortunately, I had to stay on campus all day because I had a 4 p.m. meeting. A 4 p.m. meeting should be illegal. By that point everyone has mentally clocked out, yet we are still sitting there pretending to be alert. Naturally, this also meant my commute home was awful, it was an hour drive! Whyyy?!! But I survived, and I am now safely back in the comfort of my own home.
The highlight of my day was lunch with a friend who brought me chicken shawarma over rice, which was absolutely delicious and frankly the only thing keeping me emotionally stable today.
I graded a lot of papers and quizzes again. They weren’t too terrible, but that might just be because I’ve reached the point in the quarter where I simply don’t care anymore. There is only so much grading a person can do before their brain quietly shuts off.
In other news, my mom informed me that she will also be going to Hawaii. My stepdad had already told me this… but she wanted to tell me herself. So it looks like I may be going to Hawaii again in July. Which sounds lovely, except for the small detail that it will probably be approximately 90 degrees with 100% humidity, but who knows right?
The meeting itself was incredibly mundane. My professor prefers in-person meetings instead of Zoom or email, which normally I don’t mind. However… everything discussed today could have easily been an email. To make matters worse, one of the other staff members didn’t even attend, which means I very well could have been home! It was essentially the same point repeated several times in slightly different ways. But c’est la vie — at least I’m getting paid to sit there.
Oh! I had a surprise guest tonight. My sister-in-law decided to use my house as her personal hotel after her concert today (a Wednesday concert, which feels bold, but she’s young and still free from the burdens of early mornings and responsibility). I didn’t mind, though I love her company — she’s the sweetest.
She also brought me Swedish candy from NYC, how could I say no to her?
And with that, back to the grading I go. Cheers!
19 days left until the quarter ends.
