Hello to any readers out there,
Today was a surprisingly relaxing day. I finally caught up on all my grading and spent some time working on grad school applications, mostly making sure I have a few safety schools lined up so that future me has options and present me can sleep at night.
One of the places I’m applying to right now is CUNY. I’ve actually never been to New York before, which is a little terrifying when you realize it could potentially become the place you live. Still, a fresh start sounds like something I might need. I’m not really a city person, but I think I could manage. My main requirement is simple: if I can walk places, I’ll survive.
What I’ve learned so far, though, is that apartment hunting in New York is no joke. Why is everything so expensive and so small? I currently live in a two-bedroom, two-bath apartment with 1100 sqft, and most of the places I’ve looked at in New York are about half the size for prices that are… honestly shocking. Maybe the salaries balance it out a little, but wow, they really hike up the prices, especially around the schools.
Right now I’ve been looking at Brooklyn, Williamsburg, Borough Park, and parts of Queens since they seem to be a bit more in my price range. Any New Yorkers reading this? If so, where else should I be looking? What places should I avoid?
Side note: I feel slightly uneasy now that I’ve finished all my work. How is it possible to feel stressed when you technically aren’t stressed anymore? Apparently my brain has become so accustomed to chaos that the absence of it feels suspicious. Like something must be wrong. Well, the stress will definitely return since finals are next week. But the real question is: what happens once I’m on my two-month hiatus from school and work? I’m honestly not sure what I’ll do with myself. But that what this blog is for right?
12 days left until the quarter ends.
