Welcome to my blog: Between Drafts Journal

This space is my attempt at starting over — gently.

For a long time, my life followed syllabi, deadlines, and very clear next steps. Now, I’m in a season of asking different questions. What do I enjoy when no one is grading me? What am I good at outside of school? What happens if I try something completely new?

So this blog will be my experiment.

Each month (or whenever inspiration strikes), I’ll try a new hobby — baking something I’ve never made, learning a craft, training for a run, attempting to write a book, or even exploring a different career path. Some things might stick. Some won’t. That’s part of it.

To keep myself grounded (and honest), I’m organizing this space into a few categories:

  • Daily Journal – reflections, thoughts, the messy middle.
  • Timeline – tracking what I’ve tried and how it’s going.
  • What’s Next – ideas, goals, and the next experiment.
  • Field notes – updates on each new hobby, plus any recipes, patterns, or resources I use along the way.

Maybe this won’t give me answers. Maybe it will just give me direction — and right now, that feels like enough.

Daily Journal

Footnotes to a former life chronicles the quiet experiments I undertake while balancing life outside of grad school, writing, and the search for hidden talents. See posts below.

  • So… Maybe a Little Superstitious

Are you superstitious? Mmm… am I superstitious? I’m not going to lie, I actually read this wrong at first and thought it said suspicious. My immediate reaction was, “Am I suspicious?” and my answer was… mmm, I don’t think so. I’d like to believe I’m fairly normal in that department. Then I read it again…

  • When the Effort Only Goes One Way

Hello to any readers out there, Today I want to write about something a little different. It’s something that has been weighing on me for a while and might even be something some of you can relate to. A few years ago, I came to a realization that was honestly a little hard to accept:…
